Last night, Jacinta White, Editor of Snapdragon Journal, decided to pour herself into getting the next issue of the journal out early. Originally scheduled for publication mid-month, the Compose Issue 9.2 was released today. For more on this, along with a beautiful reflection, please see Jacinta's opening note to the issue here.
My poem, "How We Get Through This," is included in the issue. You can find it here.
I have not had a chance yet to read through the other fine selections, but I look forward to doing so and encourage you to do the same.
I had no inkling when I wrote this poem that it would release in conversation with a moment like this. Whether you find yourself 'composed' or like the speaker in the poem, "a pathetic pile of bones on the floor," today, please know that you are loved, and you are not alone.
Thank you Jenna -- I have been reflecting on the last eight years and how much has changed in my life since the shock I experienced then. I am so grateful for my own personal healing and wonder how it can extend to healing of our country and our world. But there are no easy answers. Poetry helps us sit with the questions. --Lory Widmer Hess
